VOC Reduction
Adding SPHERIGLASS® solid glass spheres or SPHERICEL® hollow glass spheres enables formulators both to reduce the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) and to increase the solids and in their formulations.
When an irregularly shaped filler is added to a formulation, its viscosity increases. A spherical extender, by contrast, allows the formulator to reduce solvent content without increasing viscosity. When spherical extenders replace irregularly shaped fillers, in fact, formulation viscosity can be decreased. |
Improved Corrosion Resistence and Film Integrity
The low oil absorption of glass provides important performance benefits in primer paints. Because glass spheres do not absorb resin, more resin is available to create the film. Glass spheres also help to disperse agglomerated materials and may improve utilization of corrosion inhibitors. As a result, primer formulations with glass microspheres show much improved corrosion resistance despite lower levels of corrosion inhibitor. |
Resin Extension
Adding inexpensive microspheres to paint or coating formulations enables formulators to reduce their use of costly resins. |
Strength
SPHERIGLASS® solid glass and SPHERICEL® hollow glass spheres are strong enough to survive Cowles dispersion. |
