Benefits of Potters Solid and Hollow Glass Spheres

Benefit
Small Particle
Size for
Class A Finish

Potters Industries supplies fine grade products for a variety of high performance applications in paints and coatings.

SPHERIGLASS® Solid Glass Spheres are available in particle sizes small enough to provide a Class A finish in topcoats.

With a density of 1.1 g/cc and a top particle size of 30 microns, SPHERICEL® Hollow Glass Spheres can also be used in this application.

Solvent-Borne
Applications

Adding SPHERIGLASS® solid glass spheres or SPHERICEL® hollow glass spheres enables formulators both to reduce the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) and to increase the solids and in their formulations.

When an irregularly shaped filler is added to a formulation, its viscosity increases. A spherical extender, by contrast, allows the formulator to reduce solvent content without increasing viscosity. When spherical extenders replace irregularly shaped fillers, in fact, formulation viscosity can be decreased.
TiO2
Substitution

SPHERICEL® hollow glass spheres may be use to replace some of the TiO2 in a formulation. The hollow glass sphere redirects the angle of light, imparting opacity. Depending on the formulation, equivalent tint strength can be achieved with 2% - 5% replacement of TiO2.
